It Was ALL I Ever Hoped For!! — November 18, 2010

My world will never be the same now that I’ve tried the new Fried Cheese Melt at Denny’s!! YEP.  I finally went and did it.  :)  And it was GOOD!

Shane and I finally made the trek to the new Denny’s that just opened on the outer edge of Carthage.  It was really fun!  I haven’t been to Denny’s in ages because we’ve never had one close by since I’ve lived in East Texas.  I grew up at Denny’s, almost literally.  I had one set of grandparents who loved that place and we went there at least once a week.  (I will totally be one of those old people who are the “restaurant regulars” one of these days!  hehe)  There are many fond life memories associated with that place, and I will love it even more once it’s been there awhile and the “new building” smell is replaced with that Denny’s coffee smell that my nose loves.

$4 NEW! Fried Cheese Melt

Grilled cheese with a twist.  Four fried mozzarella sticks and melted American cheese grilled between two slices of sourdough bread.  Served with wavy-cut French fries and a side of marinara sauce.

(Personally, I think we all should be concerned with the fact that this crazy meal is ONLY $4!!!!  You can’t even get a decent salad for $4 at most places, but look, you can totally get more than your daily recommended caloric intake for the low, low price of four bucks (plus the future costs of heart surgery, but who’s counting?))

 

Shane chickened out on trying out the fried cheese melt, so he got a bacon cheeseburger:

You know what I love?  I LOVE the fact that Denny’s has never changed their plate pattern.  Nostalgia!!!  I’ve been eating off these plates for years.

MY food.  Oh, my food.  You would never believe how good this sandwich is!  The sliced cheese melts itself down and is gooey and yummy.  The mozzarella sticks have the usual fried cheese stick texture – kind of chewy, so the whole thing together is really good blend of cheese flavors and textures.  I also love the fact that they serve it with marinara sauce!  YUMMY!  I got seasoned fries with mine instead of the regular fries.

If you’ve been nearby at all lately, you know I’ve been talking about this sandwich for months.  I admit I did balk at the 1500 calorie price tag (including the sauce and fries), but I decided that I probably do much worse than that with my nachos at Jalapeno Tree…..I’m just living in blissful ignorance in that regard!  hehehhe.  Everyone needs to give this thing a try!  I’m already craving it again, so it’s is only good for me that Denny’s is far enough away that it’s going to require a bit of effort to take the time to make the trip.  :)

My only warning associated with this sandwich: prepare to be very thirsty afterwards!  I don’t know what the sodium content is but it must be through the roof!  I was like, “I NEED WATER!” for the entire rest of the evening, hehehe.

After we got back home, Shane straightened my hair for me!

Can you believe this took almost two hours?  That’s a Herculean effort on his part!  (and that doesn’t count all the touchups before leaving the house this morning!) I just love the flatness, and it’s so incredibly long when it’s straight!  All this hair won’t be mine much longer, so we have to appreciate it while we can.  :)  I’m wishing I never had to take a shower so it would stay this way for just a little longer.

We took my fancy hair to Longview today just to run around and do some browsing.  We ate at McAlister’s to try to feel healthy for last night’s choices!  (Halo effect, I am sure!)  We lost all track of time in Target.  I don’t know what happened, but we just walked around and looked at the whole store, hehe. It took a couple of hours by our best estimates. What a pleasant and relaxing day!
